RUNWAY / TAXIWAYS COMMITTEE
The scope of the Runway/Taxiway Committee is to maintain the runway and taxiways to the best possible standard for the community, which will ensure that the community’s greatest assets will always be usable and enduring. The runway consists of a very tough hybrid grass; the best there is for the purpose of landing airplanes. It is the same type of grass that is commonly used on polo fields in order to endure and regenerate after damage from the horses; however, as with any turf surface, it needs constant attention, and its lifespan will be dependent upon that attention. It must be maintained against fungi, weeds, insects, drought, over hydration, and excessive wear and tear.
Next to the Runway, the second most important aspect that the committee addresses is the taxiways and drainage system: the two are intermingled. The Aero Club is a P.U.D. and was designed to manage its own water; for this reason, the drainage system is integrated throughout the community in conjunction with our runway, taxiways, and roads.
Since the community still has empty lots to build, and much larger homes than originally contemplated have been built in recent years, the drainage system is stressed and needs close attention from the committee. If flooding occurs, it deteriorates the runway and taxiways, fills our swales with muck, and causes water to move to places it is not supposed to be.
